  • How To Update A Brass Chandelier?

If you like a change, this is the project for you. Take down the chandelier and remove the bulbs. Tape off the area that you do not want to color. Buy a spray paint that would match your decor. There are some new ones on the market, high gloss, semi-gloss, patine, textured and hammered. I recently did my old colonial chandelier that had rusted and was outdated. I used the black hammered look. I took the chandelier into the garage and hung it on a beam.

Then I covered my mouth and nose with a mask and started spraying. I let it dry 24 hrs. I had to buy a new chain for the chandelier because the old one broke. These you can buy at any home store. I used chandelier lights, and bought some cool looking shades, also at the home store. I get so many compliments on my new chandelier and people want to know where I bought it. I am thrilled to tell them that it’s my old one, redone.

  • Chandelier For The Dining Room – Many Choices

There are several things to consider when choosing a chandelier for the dining room. The first thing to consider is placement and where in the room the chandelier will be hung. Most often lighting is placed in the center of the room, and centered over the dining table. The size of the room and the purpose of the lighting should also be considered. For example a larger room may need more light and therefore a larger chandelier should be considered.

Chandeliers are manufactured in all shapes and sizes and can have a multi bulb capacity or just one. They sometimes include fabric, glass or plastic shades. If the chandelier is to be centered over the table, the size of it should not overshadow the table. It should however provide adequate lighting for the size and seating capacity of the table. Another consideration when choosing a chandelier should be the type of decor in the room. A large lighting fixture with many ornate details and crystals would not add to the simple sleek lines of ultra modern furnishings. Whereas large, heavy and ornate furniture is usually complemented by large and detailed lighting fixtures.

When choosing lighting other things to be considered might include the type of metal or wood and glass and the weight of the fixture itself. A heavy fixture may not be supported by the type of material in the ceiling of the room. Dining room fixtures such as chandeliers can be mounted flush to the ceiling or suspended by link chain or metal posts. The most important consideration when choosing a chandelier is finding one that appeals to the buyer in both style, size and design. A store that specializes in lighting would have a larger selection and the knowledge to help the buyer select just the right chandelier for their dining room. A chandelier is always a beautiful addition to a dining room when it is just the right size.

Chandeliers – They provide that completeness needed for the dining rooms with their aesthetic look.

Chandeliers, when hung above the dining table, will complement the beauty of the room’s furnishings.

Chandeliers define your style and dining under chandeliers would provide the perfect mood for the diners.

Chandeliers come in various sizes, shapes, designs and all of these things determine the cost of the chandelier. If you visit lighting showrooms or go through catalogs, it will always be a tough task for you to decide on the chandelier you need. Even the most beautiful and expensive chandelier can become incompatible with the dining room (any room in that case), if you do not keep some factors in mind.

Before buying the most appropriate chandelier for your dining room, keep the following things in mind.

    a) Height of the room’s ceiling

    b) Size of the dining table

    c) Total amount of light required for that room

    d) Style of your home

Always keep in mind to place the chandeliers about 30-32 inches above the dining table. If you have higher ceilings, it is better to buy larger chandeliers, so that they (along with other ceiling fixtures) can illuminate the space completely or else smaller chandeliers may account for shadows in the space. If the ceilings are not high enough, it is recommended to buy chandeliers, which are approximately 1/3 the width of the dining table (shape of the table is ineffective here). Otherwise, people might collide with the hanging chandeliers while standing up. Keep the area of the space that needs to be illuminated in mind. The basic formula is to multiply the space area by 1.5 watts which gives the total amount of light required. Also the style of other decors and the room, colors of your room play a very spectacular role in selecting your chandelier.
